Hola Amigos! Espero que estén bien (I hope you are all doing well). Let’s talk eco-friendly packaging.
As you know, I like to share recipes with you to make your taste buds happy. Now, I want to tell you how we can make the planet happy. Cooking healthy and delicious food is good, but being kind to la Madre Tierra (Mother Earth) while we do so is even better.
At Melita’s Table, we do this by using eco-friendly containers and labels. It is one simple way to stress less and enjoy life more. Who wants to worry about the planet when they are eating a delicious meal? Not me. Like my own abuelita said, you can have fresh food with no guilt, even when you are busy!
Today is a very busy day for me, but I still want to eat healthy. I do not like the “afternoon slump.” I think I will have a portobello chimichanga and some flautas after I am done writing to you. Now, where was I?
Sometimes my friends say it is too difficult to be eco-friendly all the time. Or, they are not even sure what it means. But being eco-friendly is easy to understand, mi amigos. It simply means living your life in a way that is better for the environment. This can be easier to do than you might think.
The World Is a Handkerchief
There is a saying in Spanish that goes like this, “”El Mundo es un Pañuelo.” It means “the world is a handkerchief.” This means we are all connected like a cloth. To me, it means the world is not as big as we think and we are all connected to the planet in some way.
When I was little, I lived on a big farm that grew lots of vegetables. Every morning I ran through the green fields and could see the plants getting taller. It was fun to play hide and seek from mi familia and it was beautiful to watch how our food grows from the earth to nourish our bodies.
Eating fresh fruits, legumes, vegetables, and roots directly from the plant tastes so wonderful. The farm taught me about being kind to the earth and never taking it for granted. And even though I moved away a long time ago, I still carry those memories with me.
So, when the idea for Melita’s Table came up, it was very important to use earth-friendly packaging. We do not want to add more trash to the landfills. Did you know more than 676 million pounds of trash comes from food packaging each year? This is no bueno!
This is why our main containers are made from 40% natural minerals and are recyclable. We even use recycled labels that are biodegradable and recyclable. I am proud to offer these containers that have a smaller footprint on the earth.
So that is why we use eco-friendly containers at Melita’s Table. We want to be a part of the change happening around us. If we all work together, we can do better and live well on this beautiful earth.
The next time we meet, I will share delicious eco-friendly foods that you can get at Melita’s or make at home on your own.
Be well, mi amigos. Until next time,
Melita
